The students in Delhi government school will soon get Yoga classes as the Delhi government has sent 1,000 physical education teachers for training to Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday visited the training camp with Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and called for other states to follow the Delhi model and introduce Yoga in government schools.
“Sixteen lakh students of the Delhi government schools will now be able to get better Yoga education as teachers get training from world renowned Patanjali Yogpeeth,” said Manish Sisodia thanking Ramdev for taking out time for Delhi’s teachers. Sisodia added: “I hope the state governments will understand the importance of Yoga education in the life of students and get inspiration from Delhi model,”.
Around 1,000 Delhi government Yoga and physical education teachers are undergoing special Yoga training under the leadership of Baba Ramdev at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. With this, Sisodia claimed that Delhi would be the first state to start Yoga classes in all government schools of the city. Baba Ramdev said the Delhi government’s initiative, which is a first in the nation, will prove to be a source of inspiration for other states as well.
The government hopes, through Yoga classes the students will be able to control their aggressiveness and desist from crimes. As juvenile crimes is increasing and has taken up a shocking shape in the city, such classes would be helpful for students.
On Monday a teacher – Mukesh Kumar, was stabbed to death by two students. More shocking was the fact that the family members have revealed that the teacher was receiving threats for the past few weeks from unruly student gangs in the city. “We value the lives of teachers as that of a solider fighting on the border,” said Sisodia and announced an ex-gratia of one crore rupees. The female teachers in the government schools also complain of harassment by unruly student gangs but they are helpless as the students are minors.
