Muscat: Oman’s top racing driver Ahmad Al Harthy and Omani tennis player Fatma Al Nabhani have endorsed practice of Yoga in a video made by the Indian embassy in Muscat to promote 2nd International Yoga Day which falls on June 21.
International Yoga Day or simply Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 and was declared to be internationally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014.mobileAd
Under the title Yoga for de-stressing, Al Harthy says that Yoga helps have better physical health, endurance, strength and flexibility.
“It leads to peace and happiness,” Al Harthy said while urging everyone to practice Yoga every day.
Meanwhile, Fatma by focusing on the benefits of health gain by practicing Yoga, she said that to be fit Yoga can help a lot.
The 3:14-minute video is made in English and Arabic.
Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice or discipline that originated in India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.
Last year, the Indian embassy had celebrated the 1st International Day of Yoga on 21 June, 2015 with the theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Oman’ wherein hundreds of Omani and Indian Yoga enthusiasts, practitioners, beginners had participated. The Event was a great success in disseminating the benefits of Yoga amongst Omani, people and expatriates.
According to a statement for the embassy, this year, thousands of participants, including dignitaries, ambassadors, diplomats and members of Indian community in Oman are expected to join the 2nd International Yoga Day celebrations.
“The Yoga Session will follow a Common Yoga Protocol, which will be practiced under the guidance of qualified instructors,” the statement added.
Common Yoga protocol is designed in a manner that participants need not have prior knowledge of Yoga. The digital version of the protocol is available on online at the following link in YouTube.
Since the above Yoga session is aimed at spreading awareness of the benefits of Yoga participation is free.
