Telangana to announce Rs 100 cr for welfare of Brahmins: Deccan Chronicle

Hyderabad: The TS government will sanction Rs 100 crore towards Brahmin welfare in the Budget for financial year 2016-17.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been stating on every major occasion that the government would take proactive measures for the welfare of Brahmins. He has already announced construction of ‘Brahmin Bhavan’ in Hyderabad.

In the GHMC elections, Brahmin associations supported the TRS and participated in the poll campaign in divisions where the community has sizeable presence.

The CM has displayed a positive attitude towards the forward caste community, of which some members are financially poor.

During the Chandi Maha Yagam, the CM had announced welfare plans for the community, like their inclusion in the 2BHK housing scheme.

Plans for the Brahmin Welfare Corporation and welfare fund were included in the agenda of the recent Cabinet meeting. However, the matter was not discussed. Sources said that the Cabinet meeting on Sunday ahead of the Budget, will discuss the matter. “The finance minister may announce Rs 100 crore for the Corporation in his Budget speech on Monday,” sources said.

The AP government has already established a Brahmin Corporation and sanctioned Rs 50 crore in its Budget.  Telangana Archakas Association leader Gangu Bhanumurthi told DC that the decision of the government was welcome.

“At last the government appears to have realised our problems,” he said.
