‘Poochorithal’ held at Mariamman temple

A large number of devotees offered flowers to Samayapuram Sri Mariamman on the occasion of ‘Poochorithal’ festival — an important annual festival at the temple, on Sunday.

Flower baskets brought from Karur, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Madurai, Namakkal, Salem, besides Tiruchi, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam were offered to the presiding deity.

Coinciding with the last Sunday in the Tamil month of ‘Masi’, the festival also marks the start of holy fast (“Pachai pattini viratham”) by Sri Mariamman, for the sake of blessing the devotees. Individuals and associations offered baskets of flowers to Sri Amman. Earlier, the festival commenced with the offering of flowers by the temple authorities.

Security arrangements

Elaborate bandobust arrangements were made at the temple for the smooth conduct of the festival which will conclude with the temple car festival in April.
