NOIDA: The police on late Wednesday night conducted searches at the slum and arrested 13 people involved in the stone pelting at the Mahagun Moderne society in Sector 78.
The local people said that a team of police personnel raided the slum area near Antriksh Golf View-1 and picked up around 50 people and took them to Sector 49 police station. The raid was conducted around 11:30pm on Wednesday when most of the people were asleep. Some of the slum dwellers gave a slip to police and ran towards the nearby bushy area.
A senior police official confirmed about the raid conducted late night however, refused to share more details. “We scanned the CCTV camera and found some people involved in the vandalism and stone pelting at the society. The police team conducted searches at the area and picked up some people. Those who had no involvement were let off,” said police.
A 300-strong Bangladeshi immigrant Muslim mob armed with stick and stones stormed the Mahagun Moderne society on Wednesday morning, believing one of their neighbours – a 30-year old woman, Zohra Bibi, who works as maid – had been held captive and thrashed after being accused of theft.
On Wednesday the employer and domestic help had registered FIRs against each other. On Thursday, the society’s facility management and local residents also registered two separate FIRs for vandalism against the maid and people who had created ruckus.
