Haridwar: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday unveiled a state-of-the-art ayurvedic treatment centre, Niramaya, inside the sprawling campus of ‘Yog Gram’, a holistic health facility run by yoga guru Ramdev near Aurangabad village, about 20km from Haridwar.
The centre, which aims to cater to high net-worth patients, has treatment options ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per day offers the best of ayurveda and naturopathy. Until now, Ramdev was identified with mass products that appealed to the lowest common denominator and, observers said, the launch of the high-end treatment centre may be an attempt to tap into the upper class segment where lifestyle diseases like hypertension, obesity, diabetes and heart diseases are on the rise.
At the inaugural ceremony, Jaitley said ayurveda and naturopathy were gaining in popularity across the world and this was reflected in centres that provided holistic treatment for diseases. “I am happy that Niramaya will function under the guidance of Swami Ramdev and benefit from his vast expertise,” he said.
According to Ramdev, Niramaya, which means free from disease, will combine ayurvedic procedures like panchakarma along with naturopathic treatment under the care of trained doctors. “Currently there is room for 400 patients in Yog Gram while 100 patients can be provided treatment at Niramaya at a given time,” he said.
As per officials at Yog Gram, Niramaya has four rooms with a tariff of Rs 50,000 per day (including treatment) and 12 where the cost is Rs 30,000 per day.
