Fire razes police camp in Ujjain, triggers explosion – Times of India

INDORE: A blaze of fire early morning on Wednesday gutted the police camp of 26 battalion Guna at Unhel check post,
24 km from Ujjain. The fire, noticed at around 10 am, triggered a series of explosions. However, no loss of life was reported.The ammunitions kept in the camp also caught fire and the bullets exploded, said police.”The fire was noticed around 10 am and was promptly brought under control. There was no harm to any individual. We are estimating the loss of ammunitions,” said Sardar Singh, head constable at Unhel police station.

The authorities were yet to ascertain the cause of the early morning fire at the camp. “Preliminary investigation reveal that short circuit could have been the cause of the fire,” said Singh.

According to sources, ammunition of different sizes stored in the camp triggered the explosions, which created a scare among local people.

“I thought it was bomb attack on the camp site. I heard at least 100 loud explosions continuously. We were terrified,” said a local resident.

“All the arms in the camp were charred in the fire. Two constables were also injured in the fire and they were rushed to hospital,” Chandrashekhar Pandey, commander, 26 battalion Guna told reporters in Ujjain.
