There was no harm to any individual. We are estimating the loss of ammunitions,” said Sardar Singh, head constable at Unhel police station.
The authorities were yet to ascertain the cause of the early morning fire at the camp. “Preliminary investigation reveal that short circuit could have been the cause of the fire,” said Singh.
According to sources, ammunition of different sizes stored in the camp triggered the explosions, which created a scare among local people.
“I thought it was bomb attack on the camp site. I heard at least 100 loud explosions continuously. We were terrified,” said a local resident.
“All the arms in the camp were charred in the fire. Two constables were also injured in the fire and they were rushed to hospital,” Chandrashekhar Pandey, commander, 26 battalion Guna told reporters in Ujjain.
