Demanding that the monthly incentive as assured by the former Chief Minister Jayalalitha be given to them, members of Grama Kovil Poosarigal Peravai (village temple priests’ forum) staged protest near Collectorate here on Monday.

Members wanted the ceiling yearly income limit for receiving pension to be increased to Rs. 72,000, demand benefits that were provided by welfare board, provide free electricity, drinking water and green-houses for priests who are residing in temple lands in any part of the district.

They also wanted a separate officer to be appointed for their welfare board so that their demands are immediately met and fulfilled. They urged the government to provide the monthly assistance as assured by the former Chief Minister.

Special Correspondent from Erode adds:

Priests of village temples in Erode also staged a demonstration in front of the HR and CE office demanding payment of monthly incentives.

They drew the attention of the government to the dwindled allocation for maintenance and upkeep of village temples.
