Mahakumbabishekam at temple begins | The Hindu
The much awaited Ashtabandhana Mahakumbabishekam at the famous Arulmigu Kailasanatharswami Temple in Tharamangalam town, near here, commenced on Wednesday.
The five day-long event commenced with mangala isai, Vinayagar poojai, sarva devatha anugnai yejamanar sangalpam, vaanja kalpa Ganapathi homam, navagraha homam, navagraha homam, poornahudi and deeparadanai.
Rituals
The rituals which commenced before the break of dawn continued till late in the evening.
A large number of devotees from across the district participated in all the rituals.
The mahakumbabishekam is scheduled on April 22 after a gap of 24 years, though has to be performed once in 12 years.
The rituals will be continued for the next four days.
The ashtabandhana mahakumbabishekam will be performed between 9 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. on April 22.
Inspection
District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare inspected the arrangements in progress for the mahakumbabishekam on Tuesday.
The Arulmigu Kailasanathar Temple is famous for its historical importance and architectural marvel.
The intricately carved stone sculptures attract devotees and tourists from across the country round the year.
Renovation
The Collector said that the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment (HR and CE) department launched various renovation works for the kumbabishekam. Paintings of Gods and Goddesses on the Rajagopuram at the entrance and the vimanas atop the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Ambal, Sri Sivakami, Sri Subramaniar and Sri Natarajar were completed with perfection.
Ms. Bhajibhakare inspected all the works completed, including the flooring, compound wall, and other facilities.
The Collector said that as more than one lakh devotees are expected to take part in the kumbabishekam, special arrangements have been made for provision of potable drinking water, toilet facility, and car parking among others.
Medical teams
Special medical teams will also be made available at the site.
S. Raja, MLA, T. Ramadorai Murugan, Revenue Divisional Officer, Sankagiri, Umadevi, assistant commissioner of HR and CE, Kalaiselvi, executive officer of the temple, were present on the occasion.
