Ujjainites paint the city red on ‘Rangpanchami’ | FPJ
Ujjain: Rang Panchami was celebrated across the city enthusiastically on Friday. The young and old alike, took part in celebrations in Ujjain city and bordering villages.
Rang Panchami celebrations were held at Shaheed Park, attended by a large number of people. A colourful celebration was also held at Guru Akhada behind Harsiddhi Temple. Energy Minister Paras Jain and collector Sanket Bhondve participated in the programme and joined people playing with colours.
A colourful programme was held at the UMC swimming pool garden located at Dewas Road. Youth and children also participated in Rang Panchami celebrations at Dewasgate Square and took pleasure in dipping themselves and others in the big iron tub filled with colourful water. A DJ programme added flavour to their enjoyment. Poha (puffed rice) was served as snacks along with cold drinks.
Rang Panchami was also celebrated at Malipura where people sprinkled colours and ‘gulal’ on each other. Here, people rocked to the tunes of traditional holi melodies. Singpuri, Kanthal, Mahakalroad, Upkeshwar Square, Dabripeetha, Urdupura, Ankpaat Marg, Piplinaka and Abdalpura areas of the old city also celebrated the festival.
The festival was also celebrated at Vikramaditya cloth market, where cloth merchants applied colour on each other. People crowded shops selling ‘bhang’ and traditional ‘thandais’. Students of the Government Nutan school hostel played with colours and participated in day long festivities.
Idol of lord Hanuman adorned with Palash flowers
On the occasion of Rang Panchami the idol of Lord Hanuman at Gumandev Hanuman Temple located at Piplinaka Road was decorated with 21000 Palash flowers. According to priest Chandan Guru, Lord Hanuman the Palash flower was a favourite of the Lord. A Maha Arti was also organised here at the temple.
