Mamata Banerjee to flag off ISKCON rath yatra in Kolkata
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the Kolkata rathayatra organised by ISKCON on 6 July.
The event will start at 8 a.m. from the ISKCON Temple on Albert Road. The yatra would pass through Hungerford Street, Minto Park, Sarat Bose Road, Hazra Crossing, S. P. Mukherjee Road, A T M Road, Exide Crossing, Chowringhee, J. L. Nehru Road, Outram Road and Brigade Parade Ground, where it would be stationed for the next seven days.
At Brigade Parade Ground, the yatra will be greeted by 108 women with shankh (conch shells) and another 108 with kalash (water vessels).
ISKCON will be celebrating its golden jubilee this year.
Apart from Miss Banerjee, Union tourism minister of Delhi, Kapil Mishra will also be present at the occasion.
This event would be made more attractive by several cultural and literary programs that are scheduled for the week such as dance, music, quiz, drama, magic shows and many other events.
Bharatnatyam and Odissi dancers will perform at the event. The rath (chariot) is being decorated with dolls and also being painted in various shades of pink, brown and white. The colours represent people from all around the world who have become a part of the ISKCON.
