Kanwariyas fetch Ganga jal to offer at Shiva temples – The Tribune
Lord Shiva devotees chanting ‘Bum Bum Bhole’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’ left for their homes today. Lakhs of Kanwariyas arrived here today to fetch holy Ganga jal from Har-ki-Pauri and other Ganga ghats to be offered at Shiva temples and Shivalayas on the auspicious festival of Maha Shivratri tomorrow.
Kanwariyas are also coming from higher reaches of Garhwal after fetching holy Ganga jal. The whole city is dipped in Kanwar fervour. The influx of devotees increased manifold today and plying of auto-vikrams was prohibited.
A traffic plan was put in place to ensure easy movement of Kanwariyas on national highways and inner stretches nearing Har-ki-Pauri. The traffic on the Kangra bridge and the Ram Prasad lane-Upper road was made one way. Heavy vehicles coming from the Dehradun-Rishikesh side were parked at Motichur while vehicles coming from the Laksha and Pherupur side were parked at Jagjeetpur.
SSP Krishan Kumar said as the rush of Kanwariyas increased, the police changed the traffic plan and the entry of heavy commercial vehicles was prohibited in the city periphery and on the Kanwar stretch.
