New York, June 9, 2016: Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) has reported that the minority Hindu community in the Mongla Upazila of Bagerhat District has been attacked yet again.

The Bangladesh Minority Watch stated that the Juba League Cadres of the Awami League (the ruling party) under the leadership of Russel Howlader brutally attacked Narayan Roy, Prabash and Subash Roy of Ward No.5 of Chilla Union on Sunday (05.06.2016).

Due to these sustained attacks, the Hindu community is extremely terrified.

Close to 5 to 6 among them sustained injuries while the 2 others have been grievously wounded.

The minority watchdog states that the armed cadres of the party are pressurising the victims to not dare lodge any complaints with the police.

These incidents are not new; the ruling party has several such complaints lined against its cadres but police rarely take action against them fearing political reprisals.

Bangladesh Minority Watch communicated with Sheikh Lutfar Rahaman, Officer in Charge of the Mongla police station and the O.C. said that the two parties have reached a ‘compromise.’

Such ‘compromises’ are extremely common in Bangladesh as the minorities are often left to fend for themselves after they file their complaints.

The Awami League is considered the secular political party in the Muslim majority nation.
