Jamshedpur, Feb. 8: Members of the Jamshedpur unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad staged a one-day dharna to protest against incidents of harassment against Hindus.

The sit-in was staged in front of the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner’s office in the city on Monday.

On January 4 the VHP had called a Chakradharpur bandh during which members of the minority community allegedly burnt their houses and shops and filed a false case against VHP activist Sardar Jagjeet Singh.

Later, through the administration, they reportedly collected money from the Hindus and constructed shops belonging to members of the Muslim community.

Leveling such serious allegations at the dharna, D Gopi Rao, vice-president of VHP, Jamshedpur added that an idol of Goddess Kali was destroyed in a temple situated at Baghbera Baroda Ghat on January 26, but no action has been initiated by the police to arrest the culprits thus far.

Rao further alleged, “Several Al Qaeda suspects have been arrested from Jamshedpur, but the district administration is silent over the matter.” He added, ‘We have staged a dharna with the same demands on February 1 in Ranchi, but still the police and district administration have done nothing to take action against the culprits.”
