New world record for Lavani dance
Hyderabad: Close to 2,000 girls from a host of schools in the twin cities danced to the powerful rhythms of Lavani and entered into the record books on Sunday in Hyderabad.
The massive dance event by the children made it to the Guinness book of World Records and in the process bettered the earlier mass Lavani dance, which was performed by 600 girls.
Jury member and brand ambassador for High Range Book of World Records, M Jayanth Reddy, announced that Sunday’s ‘Lavani’ dance created a new world record and appreciated the efforts of all those responsible for the attempt.
Lavani genre of music is popular in Maharashtra and is a combination of song and dance, which is particularly performed to the beats of traditional ‘Dholki’, a percussion musical instrument.
Organised by Neelima Dance Academy and Tanush Dance Academy training so many young children was no mean task.
“It took us months of intense practice and preparations to pull off the Lavani dance performance by so many children. The dance itself is very colourful because of costumes involved. We are glad that the performance went without any glitches,” said Lakshmi Jagadeeshwari and others who prepared the students for the event.
Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment and chief guest of the function, Bandaru Dattatreya appreciated the hard work of the students.
“It was pleasing to see so many young girls participate and achieve such a huge feat on the occasion of the upcoming International Women’s Day. Youngsters have to take part in such events and strive to keep up the culture and traditions of our country through such Indian art forms,” he said.
