Extensive arrangements for final immersion day of Ganesh idols – The New Indian Express

HYDERABAD: Anticipating that nearly 25,000-30,000 Ganesh idols will be immersed in the waters of Hussainsagar and others lakes across the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited  (TSSPDCL) and irrigation department are making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of immersion on September 15. Apart from Hussainsagar, the idols will be immersed in different water bodies and 10 Ganesh Nimmajjanam Koneru (separate pond enclosures) at 10 different tanks in the city.

GHMC: The GHMC has identified over 100 different procession routes stretching to 225 kms and has taken up works related to pothole filling, sanitation, pruning of tree branches and lighting.

Special Ganesh Action Teams (GAT) with 3,000 workers are being constituted and would be positioned at different points along the procession routes. For the convenience of devotees during the procession, GHMC is  also setting up mobile toilets at various junctions including Tank Bund, NTR Marg among others. As many as 18,000 to 20,000 temporary lighting facilities are being set up. Sanitation workers will work in three shifts to clear garbage from time to time.

HMDA: The HMDA started making required arrangements and has placed machinery to remove idol debris from the lakes. HMDA has been given the task of clearing the debris from the water bodies within seven days after the final immersion.

The authority will use its two Dredging Utility Crafts, Long Boom Amphibious Excavator and Trash Collector for taking up cleaning operations. HMDA is planning to complete the work within seven days and bring back the lake to normal condition by taking up the activity round-the-clock.

HMWS&SB: The HMWS&SB will set up 100 water camps along the procession route and also keep 20 lakh water sachets ready for distribution on the day. The desilting works have been taken up to ensure that there are no sewer overflows on the procession route. The government will press 25 large cranes on NTR Marg and Tank Bund and few dozen cranes at different water bodies.

TSSPDCL: The TSSPDCL is making arrangements to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Ganesh immersion at all the lakes. In addition to the existing DTRs, some 50 distribution transformers of various capacities were arranged additionally at the premises of immersion points in twin cities and 38 DTRs at immersion points of Rangareddy District. Four camp offices are being arranged in Rangareddy.
