Health department to start 50 yoga camps in Chandigarh next month
Starting next month, the UT health department will start 50 yoga camps for residents in the city. The department had earlier said that these camps would start in October. According to health department officials, they have identified 50 schools with the help of UT education department where these camps will be organised daily.

“Anybody can come and attend these camps. City residents would be trained or they can perform on their own at these camps,” Dr Rajiv Kapila, nodal officer of National Ayush Mission told Chandigarh Newsline on Saturday. He said that 50 schools have been included in the first phase and later, more schools would be added.
“We are engaging 50 yoga instructors for this process. In the future, more trainers will be roped in as well,” said Kapila. No date has been fixed as to when these camps would be inaugurated.
“It will be inaugurated in November. Currently, no date has been fixed,” said Kapila, adding that these camps would be organised for one hour daily. “Different locations covering almost all parts of the city and peripheral villages will be included, he added.
UT Home Secretary Anurag Agarwal had earlier said that they had received an approval from the Ministry of AYUSH to hold these camps. The ministry had agreed to provide funds for running the camps in which free training will be imparted to city residents. Around 30,000 people had participated in the mega event, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, earlier this year. Around 10,000 participants at the event were from Chandigarh.
The central government has also sanctioned several Ayush-related projects in the city. Recently, fund worth Rs 4.5 crore were sanctioned to setup various Ayush projects in the city, including a 50-bed Ayush Integrated Hospital and a Ayurvedic and Homeopathic College and Hospital.
