Hinduism is very tolerant: Mehbooba Mufti – Times of India

NEW DELHI: PDP MP and an alliance partner of the BJP, Mehbooba Mufti, who still has her seat in the opposition benches, told Lok Sabha on Friday that Muslims who rejected the two-nation theory and stayed back and “therefore nobody can ask them to leave. For, this country owns them and they own this country.”
Speaking of tolerance, which she said existed among people of India even though it may be lacking in “politicians who are only concerned about elections,” Mufti said, “Let us make our country a showcase window of harmony and what true Islam is all about.”To those who ask (Muslims) to go to Pakistan, I want to say that the country owns us and we own the country,” she said, in an obvious reference to recent attacks on actors Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan for their opinion on intolerance.Making an impactful speech, to an applauding House, Mufti said, “the system may have failed but the people have never failed,” in keeping up the inherent spirit of tolerance in this country “that has been proved every time whether it is after Dadri recently, or Bhagalpur or Gujarat or any other riots…” “Indian Muslims follow real Islam. This is also because the Hindu majority (community) is very tolerant. Babasaheb (Ambedkar) must have taken tolerance from Hinduism. The way Hinduism has tolerance, perhaps no one has it. The way historians, authors and scientists have been protesting and returning their awards… the way they came out in protest keeps the nation alive. I salute that India,” she said. “In Pakistan or Syria even if Muslim is killed one cannot open their mouth,” she added.

Reflecting on the issue of tolerance, as she started to speak, Mufti heaped praises on B R Ambedkar, saying, his contribution in making of the Constitution, “unlike the present day politicians who think about next election, reflects his thought about future generations while drafting the constitution.”Speaking of Ambedkar, the PDP MP said “he gave us an inclusive Constitution… Jammu and Kashmir was the only Muslim majority state which was part of India… therefore Article 370 with understanding and sensitivity… our nation is the most tolerant nation.”
