TENSION prevailed in Jahaudi village of Baghpat district after Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad workers held a meeting there Wednesday protesting against the alleged abduction of a Hindu girl by four youths of another community. The police later in the day arrested two of the accused identified as Mohsin and Inaam.

The family members of the victim and people from the community had also held a panchayat on Tuesday threatening to take “further steps” if the girl was not recovered soon.

The 18-year-old girl whose marriage was scheduled for this month, went missing on June 14 when she had gone out for some work. When she failed to return, her brother got an FIR lodged at Binauli police station against four persons —- Sonu, Furqan, Mohsin and Inaam —- alleging that they had abducted his sister.

Station Officer, Binauli police station, Dinesh Kumar said, Mohsin and Inaam have been arrested and raids are being conducted to recover the girl and arrest other two accused.Heavy police force have been deployed to maintain peace in the village, which has an equal population of the two communities.

On Wednesday, Baghpat district convenor of Bajrang Dal, Vinod Singh and VHP’s district president Sahdev Singh along with other workers visited the girl’s house and met the family. They held a meeting there and threatened to intensify the protest if the girl was not recovered and the accused arrested soon.

“We had gone to Jahaudi village after coming to know that local residents held a panchayat on Tuesday where they demanded to recover the girl soon. I assured the girl’s family that they we all are with them and would hold protest if the girl is not recovered soon,” said Vinod Singh.

Sahdev Singh alleged that girl’s family was being threatened by the police and some local residents. “They are being told by the police that communal tension may occur if they raised the issue. Hence, family members are keeping silent. We assured the family that we will raise the issue and decide the next course of action soon,” said Sahdev Singh.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police, Baghpat, Poonam said efforts were being made to recover the girl. She said the police will take action against those persons who are trying to disturb the atmoshphere by issuing any kind of statements.
