MES Road residents renovate old temple | The Hindu

Residents of MES Road in Ganapathypuram , East Tambaram, have joined hands to renovate an old temple at Nadu Theru, off MES Road. The renovation of Arulmigu Sree Nagathamman Aalayam is under way and the temple will be ready for a consecration ceremony on November 23, say MES Road residents. The renovation covers the shrines for the deities Valampuri Vinayakar, Balamurugan, Navagraham and Durgai Amman, in the temple.

N. Ashok, a long-time resident of East Tambaram, says, “In 2011, the Tambaram Municipality re-laid the stretch without scrapping the old road. As a result, the temple structure is located at a level below the road, which contributes to frequent inundation of its premises.” Residents complain that during the heavy rains of 2011, rainwater mixed with sewage, resulting in damage to temple properties.

“Due to lack of funds, restoration of the temple could not be taken up for more than five years,” says Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, a resident of MES Road.

Work on constructing shrines for deities Navagrahas, Amman and Ganesha, and constructing Rajagopuram and work on laying granite flooring have been completed.

Walls have been constructed around the temple and a gate has been put up at the entrance.
