Kirtan has been medium of social teaching for centuries: Baviskar
Kirtan scholar Chakor Baviskar said that kirtan has been a medium of social teaching for centuries and it is the need of hour that kirtan tradition is maintained and enriched for leading the society towards the right path of fruitful living.
Baviskar was addressing the state-level Kirtan Mahotsav organised by Kala Academy in collaboration with Kalika Devasthan at Van- Mavlingem in Bicholim. KA vice-president Raja Khedekar, Shriram Shinde, Devidas Karekar, Vishnubuva Shet Gaonkar and Dr Dattaguru Amonkar were present on the dais.
Baviskar lit the lamp to mark the inauguration of the Mahotsav. He informed the gathering about the factors that make kirtan effective. He further said that nama kirtan, guna kirtan and lila kirtan are three forms of kirtan.
Kirtan has the power to light the inner spiritual lamp which makes life meaningful, he added.
Raja Khedekar, in his introductory speech, informed the audience about various schemes and programmes being implemented by Kala Academy.
Bhagvati Kirtan Vidyalaya students presented Mangalacharan under the guidance of renowned kirtan artist and principal of kirtan college Suhasbuva Vaze. Dr Amonkar introduced the guests to the gathering while Sanjeev Zarmekar compered the function.
Kirtan artiste Sandya Pathak from Sangli-Maharashtra, bal kirtan artistes Abhishek Joshi, Avadhut Marathe, Kiran Tulpule and Vishnubuva Shetgaonkar presented kirtan performances.
Udaybuva Phadke, Gurudas Sutar, Keshav Shivdekar, Damodar Chari, Mahesh Gawas, Sandesh Chari and Sunil Mhauskar participated in kirtan sangeet programme. Vivekbuva Joshi was the programme coordinator.
