Yoga exponent to bring out an encyclopedia on yoga – Times of India

MANGALURU: Yoga exponent from coastal Karnataka K Raghavendra R Pai, who has 30 years of experience as a national and international resource person, is all set to bring out an encyclopedia on yoga, a first of its kind by an Indian author.’Yoga Vishwakosha’, an encyclopedia in Kannada, will comprise of several volumes that cover all topics on yoga and other related sciences, said Pai at an interaction with media persons, here on Friday.
Pai, who was the director of SDM College of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences and holds of D Litt honors from Hampi Kannada University, said he has already started working on the encyclopedia. The first volume of encyclopedia, which will be published by Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Prathishtana, is expected to be released within 18 months, he said.

 

“We have encyclopedias on yoga compiled by foreign writers in the market. Similarly, there are many dictionaries in the market that are dedicated to yogic science. ‘Yoga Vishwakosha’ will be the first encyclopedia to focus on all aspects of yoga including asanas, soorya namaskara, mudra and other related sciences. The encyclopedia will also include 121 asanas including ‘Anthariksha Yoga’ mentioned in ‘Sritattvanidhi’, written by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar III, Maharaja of Mysuru,” Pai said.

He added that while the encyclopedia will be of several volumes, the first one will be exclusively for asanas.

Pai, who has participated in international yoga sessions in Russia, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, recently visited Vietnam on invitation from Smita Pant, consul general. He has been awarded the ‘Vietnam Book of Records Certificate’ for setting two records as an instructor – ‘Yoga exercise with the most sun salutation (Soorya Namaskara) rounds (1008 rounds)’ and ‘Longest Yoga Marathon with Sun Salutation’ in May, 2016. The event was organized by the Om Yoga and Wellness Hub by Master Santhosh Cheriyamane Ananda, in Ho Chi Minh city. He was also conferred WorldKings World Records Union India – USA Certificate, for instructing 15 members to successfully set world record of 7,777 rounds of sun salutation, with 77,770 different yoga poses in 60 hours, six minutes and six seconds, in June this year.
