Rain gauge set up at Srirangam temple – The Hindu

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has set up a rain gauge atop the 1,000-pillar mandapam at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

“The gauge has been set up for a scientific study on the quantum of rain received at the temple,” an official source told
The Hindu
. The rain gauge would help ascertain, on scientific basis, the quantum of rain realised in and around the temple zone.

As part of renovation of the temple last year, the HR and CE department had set up rainwater harvesting structures at different places. All wells had been rejuvenated. The official said that the entire temple had been divided into three major divisions so that every trickle of rainwater was realised.
