Special 400 with Modi on Int’l Yoga Day: UT admn forms committee

The administration has formed a special committee to finalise 400 participants who will practise yoga along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside a special enclosure on International Yoga Day, observed on June 21. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is expected to be present.

Deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi and inspector general of police Tajender Singh Luthra, will finalise details in consultation with special protection group (SPG), as members of the committee. The venue will accommodate 35,000 people, complete with a waterproof stage for yoga instructors and a podium for the PM. To avoid any security hassle, over 600 school buses will shuttle between the venue and earmarked parking lots.

Participants will park their cars or arrive at these parking lots and avail the shuttle service. Entry will begin at 4am and the event will start at 7am and end in an hour.

The administration is spending Rs 8 crore on the event. A separate budget of Rs 50 lakh has been allotted for advertising. Officials said the Ayush ministry will fund the ferrying of passengers, putting up tents and getting T-shirts for participants.

Slogan writing contest

The administration has invited entries for an online slogan writing contest. Winners will be allowed to practise yoga in an enclosure close to the main stage. Three cash prizes worth Rs 10, 000 have also been announced. One can submit entries online on Facebook or mail one-line slogans in Hindi or English, with mobile number, at [email protected] before June 5.
