Minister wants lotus flower decoration at Chandigarh Capitol Complex
Union minister of state for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik has asked the Chandigarh administration to use lotus flower, also the BJP symbol, to decorate the Capitol Complex for the International Yoga Day to be held on June 21.
The mega event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and around 30,000 participants.
The 63-year-old minister visited the Capitol Complex along with secretary, ministry of Ayush, Ajit M Sharan on Friday to take stock of arrangements for the mega event.
Naik asked the officials to fill both the pools in front of the Assembly, where the main stage is to be set up, with lotus flowers.
While carrying out the inspection, the minister asked UT adviser Parimal Rai to use lotus for decorating the venue. Rai immediately directed UT chief engineer Mukesh Anand, who was on the spot, to check the availability of the flower.
The chief engineer called a vendor to check the availability of the flower and directed his employees to float a tender. The minister also directed the officials to decorate the Assembly building with colourful flowers.
The UT adviser expressed apprehension on the availability of lotus flower during the summer season. However, he said they will use other available colourful flowers in place of lotus.
The administration is already spending Rs 4.5 lakh on planting around 4,000 ornamental plants at the complex. Besides, a total of 1,000 earthen pots with different varieties of flowers will be placed across the venue. As many
as 200 each Dwarf Chandni, Tecoma Stans, Hamelia Patens, Ficus Tall, Junipers and Areca Palm; 50 Golden Bottle Topiary and 2,000 Ground Cover will be planted at the Capitol Complex.
Naik and Sharan reviewed the ongoing preparations in details. The duo took a round of the complex and were briefed by the UT adviser on all the preparations, including seating and security.
They also checked the quality of the mats that have been procured for the event from a private agency. The minister lauded the administration for putting their best efforts in preparation and promotion of the event.
The Chandigarh administration will introduce the 360 degree view live photo feature on the International Yoga Day Facebook page. The application enables the users to view a photograph in 360 degree. Deputy commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi said all the exclusive photographs related to the ongoing Chandigarh Yoga Festival and the International Yoga Day will be uploaded on the Facebook page.
