Ujjain: Fire engulfs small shops at Mahakal Temple

Ujjain: Goods worth lakhs were gutted as a major fire broke out at three different places here on Wednesday.

Fire erupted at some shops near Bhasmarti Gate of Mahakaleshwar Temple on Wednesday around 12.30 afternoon. Shopkeepers suffered a big loss of over lakhs of rupees as all saleable goods were reduced to ashes due to the fire. Eye witnesses reported thick smoke and lofty flames rising high. It is said that a cylinder exploded there, which led to the incident.  Mahakal police immediately rushed to the spot and scattered the mob gathered there. Fire fighters took almost 45 minutes to control the flames completely. The reason of the fire is primarily said to be short circuit but the police started investigations taking all angles into consideration.

Just after the incident at Mahakal, at around 1.20 pm in a different incident fire erupted due to short circuit in a cotton factory at Maksi Road Industrial Area. Here machines, furniture, building of factory and other goods got damaged. Finished goods placed at the warehouse and factory got completely ruined in the fire.  According to sources, actual figure of damage is yet to be received. Fire fighter took almost one and half hours to control the fire here.

A house at Paanbihar village was completely destroyed due to a fire in a separate incident near here. According to villagers, fighters reached here late and as a result the house was entirely reduced to ashes with cash Rs 30, 000.
