Priests in Travancore Devaswom Board to have grades soon | Matrubhumi
Thiruvananthapuram The priests working for the Travancore Devaswom Board will soon have grading according to the President Prayar Gopalakrishnan. “The priests will be ranked on a scale of three with grades A ,B and C according to their professional standards and quality and not their experience,” said the President.
It was also conveyed that Sabarimala will be made an international pilgrimage centre and the authorities are awaiting a visit by the Prime Minister in this regard. During the last pilgrimage season the temple revenue had shot up by Rs. 25 crores and touched Rs. 243.65 crores.
Of the 2888 candidates who competed in the test for proficiency in religious matters, 1998 cleared from 158 different religious institutions. The Travancore Devaswom Board is also planning to establish vedic study centres in 1250 temples which will be called ‘Hindumata Vedanta Samskrita Pathashala’.
It was also decided that the advisory council will be limited to people whose children or grandchildren are students of the vedic schools. There will also be a new vedic study centre at Shangumukham which is expected to become a subcentre of the Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Kolkata. Prayar also said that the life histories of Chattambi Swamikal, Ayyankali and Sree Narayana Guru will also be included in the syllabus along with computer education.
