Edupayala temple records heavy crowd | Telangana Today

Sangareddy: The traditional procession of bullock carts was taken out at Sri Vana Durgabhavani Temple, Edupayala in Medak district on Saturday evening as a part of the temple tradition. A huge number of devotees from across the nearby villages have arrived at the temple with their colourfully decorated bullock carts to participate in the annual fete.

Following the tradition, the bullock cart belonging to the descendant of erstwhile Papannapet Samsthan’s ruler Raja Ramachandra Reddy led the procession of carts and was inaugurated by the Temple Executive Officer, Venkatakishan Rao. The bullocks and carts were colourfully decorated with vibrant colours and flowers by their owners.

Potharaju and Sivasakthis were busy dancing while drum beaters were indulged in the preceding of the procession of bullock carts. A huge number of devotees thronged the temple on the second day of three-day annual Brahmotsavams joined them in celebration. Devotees who arrived from across Telangana, Maharastra and Karnataka have pitched tents either side of the sacred River Manjira for almost a kilometre long. The temple is located on the forest fringe on the banks of river Manjira near Ghanpur anicut in Papannapet mandal has recorded heavy activities as the temple administration estimated the devotee influx crossed  two lakhs.

The devotees have offered prayers after having holy dip in the sacred river.  Elders of 18 castes, who are into 18 different traditional occupations, have brought the bottu (Kumkum) to apply to the goddess Durgabhavani, the presiding deity, before the commencement of the procession of bullock carts. Deputy Speaker, Padmadevandar Reddy and others joined the devotees in the celebrations on Saturday.
