VHP: VHP plea to CP over cow slaughter

VHP workers protest at the police commissioner’s office in the city

AHMEDABAD: A group of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists met the new city police chief A K Singh on Monday afternoon with a plea for police to pay more attention to cow slaughterers and cow rustlers rather than going after cow protectors who are out to `save gau mata’.

A few cow protectors who had come with the VHP leaders said their representation was in response to the CP’s statement with regard to moral policing and his promise of action against violent vigilantes.

VHP activist from Ahmedabad Raju Patel said cow stealing and slaughter is rampant in big cities. “We read reports in newspapers about recovery of beef. Footage of cow stealing is shown on local TV channels,” added Patel.

North Gujarat VHP leader, Jethanand Harvani, said police should implement the anti-cow slaughter laws of Gujarat. The VHP leaders in their representation to the city police chief stated that cow protectors ( gau rakshaks) remain adamant on protecting cow progeny at any cost.

Police sources said A K Singh heard the representations made by the VHP leaders and assured them that strict action will be taken against those who break the law.
