Special pujas mark Jayatirtha’s aradhana mahotsava at Malkhed – The Hindu

The 628th Aradhana Mahotsava of Sri Jayatirtha ranked as the second great outstanding personality in the Dwaita movement was held on Sunday with religious fervour at the Uttaradi Mutt on the banks of the Kagina in the erstwhile capital city of the Rashtrakuta kingdom in Sedam taluk of Kalaburagi district.

The three-day aradhana began on Saturday with the Swamiji of the mutt Sri Satyatma Tirtha performing the Purva Aradhana at Yergol in Yadgir district and archaks performing special pujas in the mutt in Malkhed.

Auspicious

On Sunday, the second day, considered to be auspicious in the Madhwa calendar when the mortal remains of Sri Jayatirtha were confined to the Brindavan, special pujas were performed at Brindavan by Sri Satyatma Tirtha Swamiji, who also conducted special pujas to Moola Rama which idol was used by the propounder of the Dwaita philosophy, Madhwacharya during his daily pujas.

Later, a portrait of the 14th century Madhwa saint and philosopher [Sri Jayatirtha] was taken out in a flower-bedecked chariot around the mutt.

Thousands of people from different parts of the State and neighbouring Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh participated in the aradhana festival. The chariot ceremony was preceded by Suprabhat in the morning followed by a discourse by Sri Satyatma Tirtha Swamiji on Nyayasudha, a commentary on Madhwacharya’s works by Sri Jayatirtha.

Sri Jayatirtha became known as Teekacharya for his commentary on the Dwaita philosophy. His Nyayasudha on the Brahmasutra Bashya of Madhwacharya is considered to be the best so far.

Sri Jayatirtha’s works are compulsory study material for those specialising in Dwaita philosophy. The aradhana will conclude on Monday with Ashwavahanotsava and Manyu Sukta Homa. The three-day aradhana began on Saturday, with Purva Aradhana and special puja.
