Mysuru hopes to host yoga event this year too | The Hindu

With Mysuru being short-listed among four cities for hosting the country’s main event on International Day of Yoga on June 21 this year, online registration for the event has commenced three months in advance.

Mysuru entered the Guinness World Records for the largest yoga demonstration or lesson in a single venue put up during International Day of Yoga last year at the Mysuru Race Club (MRC). As many as 55,506 people performed yoga to achieve the record.

Aimed at making the event even bigger and achieving another record, the organisers have opened online registration on https://www.yogadaymysuru.com for persons interested in making it to the event. Jaipur, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are the other cities short-listed with Mysuru for the main event.

So far, 2,394 people have registered for the event which will be held at MRC from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Despite making a slow start last year, with registrations picking up only a few days before the main event, the city created a record, thanks to the record number of spot registrations.

“We are proud that Mysuru has been short-listed with three other cities for the main yoga day event. Hoping that the city hosts the main event this year, we are accordingly making preparations. Our wish is to retain the record, putting up a much bigger session,” said H.P. Janardhana, Deputy Director, Tourism Department.

He told The Hindu that a lot of planning was required for hosting an event of such large scale. Moreover, there would be pre-event sessions and also training sessions. There would be boot camps ahead of the main event. “To plan all these sessions, we need to know how many people are interested in the event. We need to start preparations well in advance.”
