Janmashtami 2016: Preparations in place for Sri Krishna Janmashtami

MANGALURU: Iskcon, Arya Samaj Road unit, will celebrate Sri Krishna Janmasthami at TV Raman Pai Convention Centre at Kodialbail on Thursday. A grand abhisheka for Lord Krishna and Balarama at 6.30pm and maha mangalarati at 9.30pm will be highlights of the celebration. Devotees will get a chance to chant ‘Hare Krishna’ mantra 108 times in a special Hare Krishna japa mantap and they can also offer ‘jhulan seva’ for benne Krishna.

Karunya Saga Dasa, president, Iskcon, and president, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Mangaluru, said public can offer prayers and perform special ashtottara seva to the lord that day.

Iskcon’s sister concern Basics Foundation will organize a session on ‘Stay high forever, never come down’ for families and students at 5pm. Darshan timings will be from noon to 10pm. Sanandana Dasa, secretary was present.

Iskcon, Coconut Garden Road, Kadri unit, will celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami and golden jubilee of the organization at the Dr T M A Pai International Convention Centre, MG Road, on Thursday. Organisers will conduct Sri Krishna Vesha and painting competitions, shloka recitation and quiz for students from 10am to 4pm, said Nama Nishta Das, manager, Iskcon Kadri.

The contribution of Iskcon will be highlighted in the form of a drama in the evening, which will see the participation of social leaders and elected representatives including N Vinay Hegde, U T Khader and Ajit Kumar Malady. Janmashtami celebrations will start from 7pm and conclude with special prasadam distribution at 12.30am on Friday, he said, adding that a mahamangala arti will be performed at 12am on Friday to symbolically herald the arrival of Lord Krishna to the world.
