Uttarakhand CM launches mobile app to help Kanwariyas | Times of India

DEHRADUN: Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched a mobile application – Har Shiv Shankar – Sawan Mein Kanvad – to help the Kanwarias coming to Haridwar to collect water from Ganga river. The mobile application, which can be easily downloaded, provides information to pilgrims on various facilities like route, traffic divers and police force deployment.

Between 1985 and 1990, the turnout for the Kanwar yatra was around 15 to 20 lakh and the number went up to 3.24 crore in 2016. This year, the state authorities are optimistic of a turnout of over 4 crore pilgrims from the yatra, which commenced from Monday.

On the request of Roorkee MLA Pradeep Batra, the application has been developed by a private software firm. Using this app, devotees can get useful information on routes, raen basera, public toilets traffic diversions, medical facilities and other facilities. In case of emergency, this app will help in tracing the location of a devotee.

Soon after the launch of the application, Rawat said, “Pilgrims in large numbers come to Uttarakhand for the Kanwar yatra and we are confident that this application will smoothen their religious trip by providing timely information and updates.” He did not rule out the possibilities of developing an application on similar lines for the Maha-Kumbh scheduled in 2021.

BJP MLA from Roorkee Pradeep Batra who prepared the concept was of the view that the app will not the pilgrims as well as the locals. “The app will provide updates to help Kanwarias and at the same time will be helpful in maintaining smooth flow of traffic,” added the lawmaker.

Ashuman Shukla, the CEO of the firm which came up with the application, told TOI, “Once pilgrims register with the application through the simple process, police team can also trace their location. If case of any emergency, tracing the location of an individual becomes the toughest work in a gathering of lakhs.”
