Assam government makes Sanskrit compulsory in the schools | Times of India

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Sanskrit Students’ Union (Aassu) and the Assam Sanskrit Sahitya Sabha said on Monday that the Assam government’s decision to make Sanskrit compulsory in the schools will prevent western impact on state’s culture.

“Along with the English language, our students need to study Sanskrit to learn about their civilization, art, culture and literature. Making Sanskrit compulsory in schools is a historic decision,” said Jayanta Malla Barua, working president of Sanskrit Sahitya Sabha.
