Chamarajanagar: Cash offerings by devotees touched a whopping Rs 1.5 Crore as Male Mahedeshwara temple atop the famous hills touched a record high in collections. Shivarathri festival aided increase in cash collection to create an all time record during the 29-day period.
Lakhs of devotees had thronged the temple atop Male Mahadeshwara hills during the festive period to adore the deity Shiva. Police provided adequate security when the temple staff counted cash. According to temple officials, Rs 1,50,750 is the highest collection ever in the history of the temple.
In addition to the above, 35 notes of Rs 1000 denomination and 233 notes of Rs 500 denomination (both banned) were also found. Gold items weighing 60 grams and silver articles weighing 1.3 Kg were found among the offerings donated by devotees, said Male Mahadeshwara temple development secretary in-charge Basavaraju.
Post note ban, the famous Tirumala Tirupathi temple has shown decline in cash collections.
