Shivratri celebrations: Commemorating the day of Lord Shiva – Hindustan Times

As the city soaks in the festival of Mahashivratri, in reverence of lord Shiva, here’s looking at some events happening in the Capital.

The Hindi play, Mahadev, based on the life of the lord.

Mahadev: Revisit the tales from Shiva’s life with this Hindi play, Mahadev by Sanskriti Theatre Group. Directed by Rajeev Raj Gupta, the two-hour long mythological play showcases the tale, where king Daksha, father of Sati, hosted a grand yajna, wherein all gods were invited, with the exception of Shiva. The play deals with Shiva’s ordeal of seeing Sati’s lifeless body, Sati’s rebirth as goddess Parvati and her marriage to Lord Shiva.

An Ode to Lord Shiva: Experience an offering to lord Shiva this Mahashivratri by renowned Kuchipudi dancers Raja Radha Reddy with an all night concert series. The concert shall commence with Rudrachamakam — the vedic chants of Shiva, followed by performances by artists, such as Gundecha Brothers, Raja Radha Reddy, Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Aditi Sharma, Shashrek Amabardar, among others.

Dance of Shiva : Experience divinity coupled with meditation in a night of dance and celebration at Zorba — The Buddha, Mehrauli-Gurgaon road, on Friday. The evening will see facilitators Ashwin Bharti, Ma Prem Bhakti take the attendees through the ancient Prana Urja Breathwork that lets one connect to the centre of our being and to the third eye, i.e connecting ourselves with the centre of our intuition.

Artist Himanshu Srivastava will showcase myths with Kalabhairava ashtakam, through the storytelling technique of Katha vachani.
