There are quite a few takers for Shiva tattoos this year, shares one of the tattoo artists Kamalnayan Mishra, and adds, “Today, my maximum appointments are for the Shiva tattoos. There are some youngsters who religiously come every year on Shivratri to get a new tat related to Lord Shiva. Right from full-body portraits to 3D designs and dot work, people wish to get innovative Shiva tattoos. Making these is quite a creative challenge for me.” Taking about this haute tattoo trend, another tattoo artist Amar Mulge says, “The appointments started a week prior to Mahashivratri. A lot of creativity and efforts go into making these tattoos. After all, sentiments are attached to them and we can’t afford to go wrong. Not only boys, but even girls have taken appointments for Shiva tattoo today. Boys want to opt for various avatars of Lord Shiva while girls want to get a trident or an ‘Om’ tattoo.
One for divinity
Carrying a picture of God or visiting temple ahead of examination seems to be passe for Gen-next. Shiva tattoos are the new lucky charm for many. Vouching for the same, Karan Wadhawa, a Science student who is gearing up for his upcoming board exams, shares, “I already have a Mahamrityunjay mantra inked on my chest and I’m looking forward to get a portrait of Lord Shiva on my back. I’m sure this tattoo will give me a lot of positive energy and luck that I desperately need for my forthcoming examinations.”

A youngster Ankit Chhutani, pursuing his BBA is quite excited to get this popular spiritual tattoo today. He says, “I’m a tattoo freak and I have quite a few tattoos on my body. However, this is my first spiritual tattoo. I’m getting a portrait of Lord Shiva with a temple design on it which shall take around three hours. I have immense faith in Lord Shiva and what better occasion than Mahashivratri to ink His tattoo. I can’t wait to flaunt it in front of my friends.”
