Padmanabhaswamy temple conducts meeting to make its premises safe – The Hindu

A plan has been suggested to form a Janamaitri Suraksha Samithi under the aegis of the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple protection department of the police by combining the areas that come under the temple protection region.

A meeting regarding this, presided over by Madhavakuruppu, Assistant Commandant of the temple protection depertment, was held on Saturday.

Needed: high level of protection

The temple and its premises required a high level of protection, and given the existing threats to safety, community policing programmes like the Janamaitri Suraksha Samithi are becoming increasingly relevant, said Thampi S. Durgadutt, Deputy Police Commissioner, who inaugurated the meeting. He said that it was also important to ensure the cooperation of the residents’ associations, auto-taxi associations, labour unions, and traders unions within the temple premises.

He also called for the restriction of the usage and sale of drugs and other intoxicants in the temple protection region.

The meeting was attended by around 50 people, including temple employees, representatives from residents’ associations, labour unions, traders unions, and the police officers of the Temple Protection Department.
