HYDERABAD: Taking a cue from the success of Haritha Haaram, where the GHMC posted the details of the nurseries and the types of plants for the public, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will adopt the same technique by putting up details of clay idol manufacturers online during this Ganesh Chaturthi.
B Janardhan Reddy, GHMC commissioner on Saturday said that people planning to celebrate the festival can get in touch with those selling clay made idols through the website.
“Contact details and location of the clay idol manufacturers will be put on the GHMC website. We will promote clay as it is better than plaster of paris,” Reddy said.
Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV), an organisation promoting scientific temper, will collaborate with GHMC to put those celebrating the festival in touch with the idol makers. The JVV on Saturday held “Walk For Green Ganesha”, a three km marathon from Osmania University to Sundariya Vignan Kendra to highlight the need for a sustainable environment.
“Competitive festivals have led to a vulgar display of wealth where there is little devotion. We need to celebrate in a way that suits nature,” said K Purushotham Reddy, environmentalist.
