The flagitious act was however obstructed when the local Hindus were immediately informed about the disruption going on surreptitiously – by a young Hindu boy who rushed to Animesh Sarkar Jishu, the temple secretary seeing it.
Mr. Jishu said, that today while the daily ritual of ‘Kirtan’ chanting was about to start at his house, the lad came up to him hurriedly, panting to inform about the temple breaking going on. Immediately he had set foot for the same with a group of the community’s men and women to stop the nuisance. Upon reaching, they found 4 men cladded in white caps rushing away seeing them marching. In the following turmoil, however one attacker Suman Islam, aged 40 was caught by the mob.
Police Officer-in-Charge Abu Taher Dewan has stated that today during the early hours, the miscreants entered into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. They started crushing the sacred idols and smashing the walls. Upon seeing it, a local Hindu boy immediately informed to the temple committee members. One miscreant, caught by the mob has been handed over to them- who is being rigorously interrogated right now in police custody.
District Administrator Mushfiqur Rehman, Police Super Jaidev Chaudhury, Netrokona Municipality Fmr Mayor Prashanta Kumar Roy, District Puja Committee’s President Mangal Saha Roy, heads of Bangladesh Hindu Organizations and many other dignitaries visited the premises.
In the last few days, there has been a series of Hindu temple razing and attacking incidents going on including at Brahmanberia, Chattok, Jessore,Barisal, Faridpur, Thakurgaon, Bagura etc. Human Chains in protests have been going on by the victim Hindus with the Government assuring justice on one hand however, the nuisance prevailing on the other- making a clear indication of the incapability of the administration in curbing these attacks.
